Veteran Anton Gămurari was dismissed from the post of adviser to the Prime Minister the next day after being appointed. Premier Ion Chicu said General Gamurari tendered his resignation, IPN reports.
After the Cabinet meeting, Premier Chicu told the journalists that he discussed with Anton Gămurari and this provided explanations. The obscene gesture shown to the veterans is condemnable.
In the protest mounted by the veterans in the central square of Chisinau on March 2, Anton Gamurari showed an obscene gesture to the protesters from the stage in reaction to the fact that the crowd booed him when he announced that he was named adviser to the Prime Minister on veterans’ problems.
Later, Anton Gămurari told the press he regrets the gesture, but he could not control his feelings at that moment. “A large part of those who were present there fought in war. I was there in 1990, 1991, 1992 and lost lads. They came and yelled at me,” he explained.
