The Anticorruption Alliance made a new request to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), asking for information about the measures taken over Democratic lawmaker Valeriu Guma’ conviction to two years in jail in Romania. In a communiqué, the Alliance says that they asked for information from the PGO in April, but received no answer and thus the letter was sent again, IPN reports.

The Anticorruption Alliance underlined the importance of the PGO promptly expressing its correct and equidistant attitude towards such phenomena. “We repeatedly ask for information about the measures taken by the PGO to initiate the procedure for withdrawing the immunity of the convicted lawmaker, in accordance with the Law on the Status of MP. We also ask being informed about the steps taken in connection with this issue and the results of the examination of our application, in accordance with the Law on Petitioning,” reads the letter sent by the Alliance.

According to the press service of the PGO, only one letter concerning Valeriu Guma reached the institution’s chancellery. It was registered on June 18. No other letter from the Anticorruption Alliance arrived.

Valeriu Guma was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Bucharest Court of Appeals, according to a decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania.

The Anticorruption Alliance is a union of nongovernmental organizations.
