At the Government's meetings there will be always vacant a seat for the representative of the Anticorruption Alliance, so that the civil society be able to participate in making decisions more efficiently, Premier Vasile Tarlev said at a meeting with the Alliance's members. Valentin Mejinschi, director of the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCECC), said he relies on the support of the Anticorruption Alliance as regards the mediation of the way in which the judicial decisions are applied in the legal cases initiated by the Center. After analyzing the judgments pronounced by the law courts in the penal cases related to the corruption and economic-financial offences examined by the CCECC, the Anticorruption Alliance’s members expressed their bewilderment as regards the sentence given to the persons accused of corruption: no person was sentenced; moreover, the fines were, as a rule, smaller than the bribe they accepted. In this context, Valentin Mejinschi, proposed to modify the penal legislation with a view to dismiss the persons concerned in the corruption cases from their post. The Anticorruption Alliance’s members support enthusiastically the necessity of adopting the Law regarding the financing of the political parties. The Alliance says that the main criticism leveled at the law – the possibility of financing the political parties out of the county – is groundless, as the Parliament can restrict such a provision. The main aim of the law is to ensure the transparency and a better monitoring of the financing of the political parties. The Anticorruption Alliance was set up on 10 January 2006 by a group of nongovernmental organizations involved in anticorruption activities. At a last week meeting of the Parliament the parliamentarian Dumitru Braghis asserted that in 2005 the Ministry of Internal Affairs and CCECC initiated 600 proceedings concerning corruption cases to the functionaries of different ranks, but only in a single case and a single person was sentenced.
