“Anticancer” Week organized in Moldova

“Anticancer” Week will be held from May 29 to June 4 in Moldova. The action will include many education activities for health and promotion of a healthy lifestyle, prophylaxis and early diagnosis of oncology diseases.
According to the specialists of Oncology Institute of Moldova (IOM), cancer is on the 12 place in the structure of diseases registered in Moldova, and in the general structure of death rate - on II place. 6,952 primary patients were recorded in 2005.
The death rate in 2005 constituted193.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 190.1 in 2004. The death rate also increased among oncology diseases, representing, in 2005, 5,174 deceases compared to 5,037 in 2004.
At the same time, the general structure of oncology death rate shows that breast cancer with 11.3% is on the first place, followed by skin cancer, with 10.2%, lung cancer - 10%, gastric cancer – 6.5%, hemoblastosis – 6.1%, recto cancer - 6%. The death rate by malign tumor at men was 194.6 per 100,000 persons, at women – 191.3 per 100,000 persons; at children – 8.0 per 100,000 inhabitants and is still increasing.
In Moldova, 37.408 oncology patients are registered in the united register of cancer diseases, which represent the laboratory group, 60.2% of them are recorded at the oncology polyclinic.
This year, along „Anticancer” Week, doctor groups will visit the consultation departments of Chisinau municipality and districts Ocnita, Edinet, Taraclia, Comrat, in order to organize consultations, cancer prophylaxis and earlier diagnosis activities.
Annually, there about 10 million patients with cancer are registered in the world and over 6.2 million oncology patients die.
