Anti-hail testing in Călărași with rockets made in Bulgaria and Russia

The efficiency of the anti-hail works during the last ten years was of 85% to 90%. This means the use of rockets enables to prevent hail. However, the anti-hail system necessitates investments for being extended and for increasing the protected areas. An anti-hail testing event with Bulgarian rockets “Loza2” and Russian rockets “Alazani-6” was held at the anti-hail unit in Călărași district on April 12, IPN reports.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju, the anti-hail protection system implemented in Moldova covers about 1.665 million hectares of the country’s territory. It is one of the most efficient and less costly ones. The cost of a protected hectare of farmland is of about €3.

To extend the system this year, the budget allocation should be increased by 3 million lei so as to set up another 18 rocket points and extend the protected areas by another 250,000 hectares in Ștefan Vodă, Căușeni, Hîncești and Șoldănești districts.

More than 1.665 million hectares of farmland in 24 districts of the country are protected from hail owing to six command units and 132 anti-hail units.

Ion Garaba, director of the Special Service for Active Influence on Hydrometeorological Processes in Moldova, said that to ensure the efficient functioning of the anti-hail units, the personnel units at the local special units should be increased.
