The National Road Transport Agency ANTA warns passenger transport operators not to disrupt travel as this could result in fines. The warning comes in the context of protests scheduled for February 27-29 with partial suspension of operations.

In a press release, ANTA warned that failure to comply with the provisions of the Road Transport Code is punishable by fines ranging from 12,000 to 13,500 lei for individuals in managing positions and from 20,000 to 22,500 lei for entities.

ANTA may withdraw an operator’s license if they fail to provide at least 10% of the total regular trips during 3 consecutive months or at least 30% of the total regular trips during a calendar month.

Earlier, Oleg Alexa, president of the Employers’ Association of Road Transport Operators, accused Infrastructure Minister Andrei Spînu of giving “illegal orders” to ANTA to pressure carriers. “Even if ANTA has been turned into a club, after someone with no relevant experience, but due to being Minister Spînu’s friend and schoolmate, was appointed as its director, transporters will not be intimidated and they will continue to fight against the schemes promoted by the minister under the pretext of European integration or pretended interest in people’s wellbeing”, said Oleg Alexa.
