Writer Andrei Strambeanu, who is a former MP, believes that the decision concerning the normalization of the situation in Transnistria that the Parliament is to adopt should lay down clear steps for driving the Russian armed forces away from Moldova’s Transnistrian region. According to the writer, until Russia has influence on Moldova, the country will stagnate.

“They possess huge territories. They should go home and leave this piece of land. Only then will we be friends with them. I have nothing against the Russians. They have an extraordinary culture, but they must go home. Those who chose to remain here should not behave like imperial vestiges.  They cause problems to us so that we can do nothing,” Andrei Strambeanu said when asked by IPN to formulate possible solutions.

The writer said that Moldova is an independent and sovereign state, recognized officially by Russia too. “But Parliament is afraid to take steps at home as the Russians may become angry. We must defend our independence from all the national and international rostrums and forget about federalization,” stated Andrei Strambeanu.

The statement on the current state of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process that was voted by Parliament on June 21 says the dispute should be resolved by peaceful methods and any action that can lead to the escalation of tensions should be avoided. The legislative body is yet to adopt a decision with measures that should be taken to normalize the situation on the left bank of the Nistru.
