We freed the country from the Russian Federation’s influence in the energy sector, said ex-Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu. He noted that owing to the made efforts, the Republic of Moldova successfully passed two of the most difficult winters the last 30 years. According to him, the Republic of Moldova should fully stop purchasing gas from Gazprom. Spînu assured that when the gas supplies purchased at high prices are used up, the gas rates for end users will decrease, IPN reports.
The ex-Deputy Premier said that the decision not to form part of the Recean Cabinet belongs to him and he does not have any regret about the work he did as part of the Gavrilița Cabinet. The Republic of Moldova was freed from Russia’s energy dependence due to his efforts and the critics should shop making unfounded accusations.
“It was my decision to withdraw from the Cabinet and not to form part of the next government team. I consider I helped free the country from the Russian Federation’s influence in the energy sector. I can say with certitude that Moldova is no longer dependent and cannot be blackmailed by the Russian Federation. I also helped the country pass two of the most difficult winters since the declaring of Independence. They say that “many heroes appear after the war”. I ask those who accuse me not to behave as heroes if they don’t know all the aspects with which I had to deal in the autumn of 2021. Now we have predictability as regards the supply of electricity and gas,” Andrei Spînu stated in the program “Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV channel.
He noted that in order to cope with the unpredictability on the energy market, the Government earlier bought gas at exorbitant prices and those supplies are being used now. That’s why the gas rates for consumers are high even if the purchase prices on the market decreased considerably. The National Agency for Energy Regulation will review the gas rates when Energocom purchases gas at lower prices.
“A part of the gas remained in stores as we didn’t consume as much as we planned. We must anyway use it as it is our gas. It does not matter when we consume the gas supplies, in winter or in summer. Volumes of gas will be bought at lower prices and the final price will decline when the average price is determined. Not much gas remained in stores. I don’t think we should ever buy gas from Gazprom as we can buy cheaper gas from the market. I believe the gas rates will decrease in the immediate period. The Ministry of Energy, the Government should do the calculations and say when the decrease will occur. When Energocom starts to sell gas cheaper to Moldovagaz, the NAER will need to review the rates,” said Andrei Spînu.
At the moment, the household users pay a rate of 29.27 lei per cubic meter of gas.
