Vladimir Plahotniuc wants to return to politics after his failure of last winter, when he didn’t manage to become Prime Minister and thus secures external support, Moldova’s former ambassador to Austria Andrei Popov, who was a member of the Democratic Party, said in the talk show “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.

“The fact that he didn’t manage to become Premier was a hard blow for Plahotniuc. In this period during which he was absent from the public life, he healed his wounds and now is preparing to return. I don’t think he is interested in the post of Head of State, which offers limited powers. He likes to govern, to have everything under control, to dictate and wants to do this from an official state position. He wants the post of Prime Minister and aims to improve his rating, which is very negative, during a year, on condition that a convenient person becomes Head of State,” said Andrei Popov.

The ex-ambassador noted he possesses information that Plahotniuc convinced the Americans and Europeans to accept the candidacy of Pavel Filip for the premiership. “The agreement was reached in an EU neighboring state – Romania. My sources said that Plahotniuc told those from the West that they have two variants – to support his candidacy or the candidacy of a person close to him, or early legislative elections will be provoked and the pro-Russian opposition will win at least 55 seats of MP of the 101,” he stated.

Andrei Popov considers that Plahotniuc’s visit to the U.S. and the holding of the recent Business Forum that was attended by the ex-President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso represent nothing but steps taken to secure the foreign partners’ support in achieving his plans and the next large-scale event that Plahotnniuc will organize could involve the Romanian state.
