Former minister of the interior Andrei Năstase, chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, said that in the period during which he served at the Ministry of the Interior, a criminal case over the illegal financing of the Democratic Party (PDM) was started. He noted he expects that the new prosecutor general will deal with this case in accordance with the law, IPN reports.

The politician said in that period during which the ACUM bloc, where he serves as co-chairman, was part of the government together the Party of Socialists, he informed President Igor Dodon that he will submit a denouncing statement about the illegal financing of the Party of Socialists. “I’m a consistent man regardless of friendships, alliances or coalitions and there is no alliance, friendship or coalition with Dodon. A conjuncture majority was formed then,” he stated in a program on TVR Moldova channel.

Andrei Năstase noted the new prosecutor general has several key tasks related to five loud cases that are very important for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

According to him, it is very important for the prosecutor general to complete the investigation into the bank fraud so that those to blame are held accountable and the stolen money is recovered. “I also expect results from the probe into the laundering of over US$30 billion by the Russian mafia, which was discovered in 2014, and also from the probe into the usurpation of state power based on my denouncement. As far as I see, the latter was well investigated before his coming to the Prosecutor General’s Office. I hope the efforts will continue.”

Andrei Năstase said he expects the case of illegal financing of the Party of Socialists and President Igor Dodon will also be brought to an end and the financing of political parties during the election campaigns of the past few years will be investigated.
