The founding president of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPDA) Andrei Năstase criticizes the PAS government, saying the contract with Gazprom was negotiated improperly. He demands that the Prosecutor General’s Office should determine if the persons who represented Moldova’s interests in Russia didn’t commit illegalities or abuses. He noted that PPDA will mount protests if the government commits irresponsible actions against the citizens, IPN reports.

Andrei Năstase expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu was entrusted with the task of holding negotiations with Gazprom, saying Premier Gavrilița or even President Sandu should have represented Moldova at the talks with the Russian side.

“We consider Mister Spînu should resign as he showed disrespect for the Republic of Moldova and its citizens. A criminal investigation should be urgently launched into this case so as to establish how the rights of the Republic of Moldova were defended in this transaction. It is crass negligence on the part of those who represented the Republic of Moldova there,” Andrei Năstase stated in the talk show “Freedom” on TV8 channel.

Moreover, he said the government ignores PPDA’s recommendations as to how to overcome particular crisis situations and anticipated antigovernment protests.

“Our means remain democratic and civilized. What possibilities does the opposition have? To protest. But we will first be an active, constructive opposition. We are ready to help where it is necessary. If there are no reactions, we will definitely resort to protests. If the government neglects the people, we will protest. We will protest by all the possible ways – by taking attitude, by making statements and by opposing,” said Andrei Năstase.

Given the energy crisis faced by Moldova, PPDA demands that the government should review the mechanism for partially subsidizing gas bills by increasing the sums allocated to the citizens with low incomes and by providing subsidies to businesses. The party also demands to dismiss Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, to make a request to Gazprom to discharge the current administration of Moldovagaz and to renegotiate the current contract with Gazprom.
