The leader of the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda” Andrei Donică seeks the postponement of the local mayoral election in the municipality of Chisinau for the reason that he was disadvantaged from electoral viewpoint and was prevented from taking part in debates and from having the events he organized covered.
In a news conference at IPN, Andrei Donică reminded that his application to be registered as a contender for the mayoralty of Chisinau was rejected by the Chisinau District Electoral Council. But the courts of law of all level ruled in his favor. However, it took time for him to cover all these stages.
Only several days ago, he was written on the ballot as a candidate for mayor of Chisinau even if the decision of the ordinary court was executory already. Still, the electoral body challenged the ordinary court’s decision in the Chisinau Appeals Court, which upheld the given decision. But the Chisinau District Electoral Council anyway disputed the decision in the Supreme Court of Justice. “They did it on purpose so that I could not campaign normally and promote my ideas, as the rest of the candidates. I was really disadvantaged against the other election contestants. Therefore, I demand to put off these elections and to allow me to exercise my legal rights,” stated the candidate.
Andrei Donică considers there are concrete persons for whom his non-registration as a candidate was convenient. “I practically missed the whole campaign as I had to go to courts and write complains. I was notified of my registration on October 30 only. Do you realize? In accordance with the Electoral Code, the election contender can start to campaign only after they are registered. So, I could start campaigning on October 31. Together with November 1, 2, 3, I have four days as no campaigning is permitted on Saturday and Sunday. This way, I was fully stopped, from all viewpoints,” stated the leader of the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda”.
According to him, the people so far don’t know that there are 28 candidates for mayor of Chisinau and consider that there are only 27 candidates. Now the voters will not see the change. “Only four days remained and I’m disfavored. This is a very serious violation and it’s clear that the election will not take place as it should. It’s clear that the results will be different,” stated Andrei Donică. He insisted that all the courts of law showed that the electoral body wasn’t right and he will yet go to the European Court of Human Rights to seek justice.
