The investments in culture and creation of new opportunities will make so that this sector will contribute to the economic development of the country. In this connection, the new projects should refer not only to the local level, but should also have a vision concerning integration into the Romanian or European space, Andrei Chistol, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture, said in a public debate hosted by IPN.

“Even if we invest a lot, but the product is intended more for local consumption or is not be connected to the Romanian or European space, the result will surely be not the expected one. It is definitely important to invest in development and promotion, but financial support is needed in this regard, either it goes to production, financing of projects, the level of pays in the respective intuitions. We must raise the level of culture through investments. We often see the cultural product only through a narrow perspective, but don’t see the value added a production brings,” said Andrei Chistol.

As to the perspective of opening accession negotiations with the EU, the secretary of state said the experience and support of Romania will be very valuable, but transposing the Community acquis in culture to the national cultural sector would be the most important method of planning and developing this approach. “You will see that in a lot of cases, we have a lot of work to do. We have a wide range of such normative documents and if we read and analyze them and try to transpose them to the national legislation, we will take one step towards the implementation of those European practices,” stated the functionary.

Andrei Chistol noted that the European integration objective was clearly defined and there is an agenda that needs to be implemented. “If we understand the directives, we will better understand what to tend to: as regards the support for cinematographic production, the access to culture, the artists and people of culture. There are a lot of documents that will help us to achieve good results in development only if we understand them. Even if we support other projects under implementation, without the contribution of people, these developers, proper arts, arts of a higher quality cannot be developed,” said the secretary of state.

The public debate entitled “Moldovan-Romanian cooperation in cultural sector, opened opportunities” was staged in the framework of the project “Double integration through cooperation and information”, which is implemented by IPN News Agency with support from the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova of the Government of Romania.
