Andrei Cebotari was named a member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) on behalf of Parliament. The candidate for this post must form part of civil society and have at least three years’ experience in law and reputable activity in case law.

The candidate was proposed by the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities that staged the selection contest.

Answering MPs’ questions, Andrei Cebotari said he worked both for civil society organizations and for state institutions. He decided to apply for this post because he wants to develop his skills.

In his speech, BCS MP Vlad Batrîncea said the contest should be a transparent process involving a higher number of candidates. Andrei Cebotari is close to an MP together with whom he took part in a project and they could have divided the financing between them. The SCP is a self-managing body that ensures the independence of the prosecution service and it is serious when there is political interference.

Andrei Cebotari was confirmed to the post by the votes of the MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity. The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists voted against, while the MPs of Șor Party didn’t attend the sitting.
