Young education specialists will receive government support in the first five years of their careers, announced Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală.

This essentially means that young teachers will get a bonus of 40,000 lei each year for five years, instead of three years today, until they can earn a higher salary based on experience.

“Everybody knows that some careers such as educational sciences are not popular among young people. Although the state allocates more than 1000 jobs in educational sciences every year, not all of them are demanded by young people. That is why we need to encourage young people to embrace jobs in educational sciences. You know that, currently, in the first three years a young education specialist benefits from an annual allowance of 40,000 lei and a full salary in 0.75 full-time equivalent position. For those who work in rural areas there is utility relief as well. We now want to introduce an amendment so that this support for young specialists is extended for a period of five years. This longer period of support will enable them to focus on their didactic work and on acquiring a higher rank so that they can earn a higher salary upon the expiry of these five years”, Anatolie Topală said during a TVR Moldova talk show.

The minister also says that the higher education reform, started last year through the merger of several universities, will contribute to improved quality of education.

“In higher education it is important to ensure the training of specialists in correlation with the needs and requirements of the labor market. We started an extensive reform process, investing money in universities. At present, projects worth over 14 million euros are being implemented, universities are changing their curricula, adapting their courses to the needs of the labor market, concluding partnerships with the business community. This year we will announce another competition with a 10 million euro budget, and the money will be invested to open new specialties, to make the studies as relevant as possible for employment”, the Minister of Education said.
