To solve the problem of the language spoken in the Republic of Moldova, a consensus should be achieved in society so as not to place the population on barricades. Furthermore, the official language of the country should be stipulated in all the normative documents. The subject was developed in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Jurist Sergey Mișin said there is only one solution that can stop the division of society by the problem of spoken language – to state the Moldovan language as the official language of the Republic of Moldova at fundamental level. “Besides the Constitution, all the normative documents should also stipulate that Moldovan is the official language,” he noted.

Political analyst Roman Mihăeș said a solution to the created situation should derive from the fact that the Academy of Sciences of Moldova established that Romanian, not Moldovan is the spoken language. The scenario of the 1990s should not be repeated and a consensus in society should be achieved so as not to place the people on barricades. What’s more, the political parties should not raise this issue at the level of the most important problem.

Jurist Pavel Midrigan said a referendum on the language spoken in Moldovan is a difficult matter. To hold this, the Constitutional Court should give its appraisal, which will probably not be positive. The components of the Court should be probably changed first because this body considers it is above the lawmakers and dares to amend the Constitution. “As long as the bodies that take decisions - the Parliament, the Constitutional Court - are controlled by other spheres of influence than those of the Moldovan people, nothing will happen. That’s why if the people want to change something, they should replace the Parliament,” stated the jurist.
