Any human, political, business relationship is built and works well when it is based on confidence. The confidence between the PSRM and PAS was compromised and its rebuilding will take long. This was compromised because particular commitments made when these parties were in power together weren’t respected. Therefore, communication between the two parties didn’t take place, civic activist with experience in communication Ana Racu, UN expert and a member of the United Nations Committee against Torture, said in IPN’s public debate “PSRM and PAS, two parliamentary groups on which overcoming of political crisis depends. Why is communication between them blocked?”.

According to Ana Racu, there are many intelligent persons, persons with professional experience in Parliament, but this professional experience does not necessarily mean wisdom or experience and knowledge. “Political communication also means emotional intelligence and political maturity for overcoming personal vainglory for the sake of the people or the voters penalize harshly,” she stated, noting that another reason for the misunderstandings between the PAS and PSRM is the different ideologies, like orientation to the East or the West.

Ana Racu said those who are now in power should take into account several priorities for having good communication. They should remember that Moldova is in a pandemic and about 20 people die daily. Also, the justice sector should be reformed, the economy should be kept afloat and education should be maintained. Despite the differences between the two parties, there are yet common principles and something can be built on this even if the proportion of the common view is small and the positions seem irreconcilable. If they don’t manage to come to terms, the snap elections are a solution.

According to the expert, the politicians have the tendency to detach themselves from the reality and focus strictly on political subjects, forgetting what’s happening there beyond social networking sites and TV channels. “Politicians’ Ping-Pongs on Facebook seem immature in parts. They should abandon the infantile methods of defending themselves. Taking mature decisions that would help solve the crisis is the most correct possibility of political defense. The taken decisions should be balanced and should take into account the fact that the voters can penalize and they should not lose contact with the realty,” stated the expert.

In another development, Ana Racu said the Constitutional Court should protect the Constitution and should not be involved in political struggles. The CC judges should not be politically affiliated. The political communication should take place between political parties, based on the principle of separation of powers in the state.

The public debate “PSRM and PAS, two parliamentary groups on which overcoming of political crisis depends. Why is communication between them blocked?” is the 173th installment of IPN’s project “Developing Political Culture through Public Debates” that is implemented with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
