The human rights organization Amnesty International Moldova on August 31 will carry out a public theatrical drive to collect signatures as part of the campaign “Stop Violence against Women”, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the organization. The signatures will be collected in support of Sakineh Mohammadi, an Iranian woman who was sentenced to death by stone hits for adultery. Amnesty International asks the Iranian authorities to cancel the death penalty for Sakineh Mohammadi and institute a moratorium on this type of punishment in the country, the communiqué says. At the same time, the organization will ask the Nicaraguan authorities to abrogate the law that bans abortions, including for victims of rapes and for women whose life is endangered by the pregnancy. The ban on abortions leads to a larger number of maternal deaths in this country. There will be distributed leaflets with information about the problem of violence against women and how it can be solved. While collecting signatures for the petitions, the members and activists of the organizations will try to involve the passersby in their activities and will ask them to participate in a play.
