The leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Party Serafim Urecheanu submitted on Wednesday, May 14, a petition containing approximately 7,000 signatures collected from Moldovan citizens, mostly inhabitants of riverine zones along the Prut, demanding the Government to unconditionally sign the Convention on the Small Border Traffic, Info-Prim Neo reports. Serafim Urecheanu stated that the AMN has collected so far some 9,000 signatures from villages and towns located between Criva and Giurguilesti. Some of them have been already presented before the Parliament on May 8. According to the AMN leader, the intention of Moldova's leadership to delay the signing of the convention can be treated as a defiance of the European neighborhood policy. Urecheanu also says the AMN will not allow the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration to be the puppet of President Vladimir Voronin. If the Government fails to give heed to this petition and will not solve the problem with all speed, the AMN intends to bring all the endorsers to Chisinau to show everyone that this is the will of the people, declared Urecheanu. The AMN president has noted that since the parliamentarians are elected by the people and represent the interests of all the citizens, it is the Parliament's obligation to handle the issues around the Convention. Serafim Urecheanu saluted the fact that more political parties have started collecting signatures from the citizens of Moldova who wish to freely crisscross the Prut. Urecheanu has dismissed rumors that these actions by the AMN have an electoral subtext.
