The Moldovan farmers who were affected the most by this year’s drought will receive, starting Friday, September 14, seeds donated by the U.S. Government.
A press release of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau says that the United States is deeply concerned about the welfare of people across the entire territory of Moldova who are suffering because of this year’s drought. Based on a request from the Government of Moldova, the U.S is taking modest but immediate steps to help alleviate some of the consequences of this disaster by buying $350,000 worth of seeds for the Fall planting.
In cases of humanitarian disasters, America offers assistance directly to the people affected by the disaster, working with international, American, or local organizations, the press release reads.
The Embassy’s response came shortly after Moldova’s PM Vasile Tarlev instructed the members of the Government not to confuse the farmers in villages in connection with the amount of external aid provided to diminish the consequences of the drought. “When I travel to countryside people ask me about millions of dollars which even I have never seen”, Vasile Tarlev said.
