A lawyer will be unable to hold simultaneously posts in the self-managing advocacy bodies and will be unable to hold more than two terms in the commissions of the Lawyers’ Union. This is stipulated in a bill to amend the Law on Advocacy that was given a first reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

The bill author, PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco, said that by this bill they clarify the method of calling, organizing and holding the meetings of the Congress of the Lawyers’ Union and of the Council of the Lawyers’ Union, with the quorum and the voting procedure being specified.

The duties to approve and execute the budget and to approve the taxes collected into the budget of the Lawyers’ Union will be transferred from the Congress to the Council so as to offer the flexibility needed in swiftly adopting the relevant decisions.

The bill is to be merged with a similar bill of the Party of Socialists and is to be given a final reading.
