The higher is the number of languages you know, the higher is the number of lived lives. The future of each nation depends on how deep the connection of its people with the national culture is. The European Day of Languages is an occasion for realizing the richness of speaking more languages. Such messages were transmitted by resident ambassadors in an event staged at the National Library on the occasion of the European Day of Languages that is annually celebrated on September 26, IPN reports.
Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said that each language expresses the way of thinking, of perceiving life differently. “It is very important to know as many languages as possible,” he stated.
Hungary’s Ambassador Sándor Szabó wished the Moldovan citizens success, keeping of the culture and language in the linguistic and cultural existence space. “Given that the Republic of Moldova is the homeland of a number of ethnic groups and different nationalities, Hungary supports the training of foreign students. The Moldovan citizens can annually file applications for 40 scholarships in a number of university centers in Hungary,” noted the diplomat.
Giulia Re, deputy head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, said that this day reminds not only of the linguistic diversity of the European continent, but also of its cultural diversity. “This day is extremely important for all the European states because it is a common treasure. Diversity is represented not only by the most spoken languages, but also by the least known languages,” stated Giulia Re.
On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, the National Library mounts an exhibition entitled “Discover the World through Languages”. The event can be visited until October 5. There, there are five info-points for persons interested in the opportunities of studying such foreign languages as English, French, German, Hungarian, and Polish.
The European Day of Languages has been celebrated in the 47 member states of the Council of Europe as of 2001.
