All the slightly over 2,000 polling stations in Moldova established for the presidential elections of November 1 were opened at 7am, IPN reports.

In a news conference, president of the Central Election Commission Dorin Cimil said the voting process at the 42 polls intended for voters from the Transnistrian region started without any incidents. There is yet information that particular tensions exist. A number of 139 polling stations were established for the Moldovan voters abroad. These are opened according to the local time. Voting started at the polling stations in Japan, China, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Israel, Russia, Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.

The CEC’s administration called on the voters abroad to regularly inform themselves about the activity of polling stations and eventual restrictions in connection with the pandemic by visiting the official websites of embassies.

The voter turnout can be monitored online on the CEC’s website. The preliminary election results will be available on the same website when the polls close and the vote reports are produced.

Polls are open until 9am. If necessary, their program can be extended by 2 hours. About 43,000 young people are expected to cast their first ballots in elections today.
