After having an impressive performance at the European Youth Olympic Festival, Alexei Sankov didn’t manage to achieve a good result at the FINA World Championship in Kazan, IPN reports.
The 16-year-old swimmer competed in the 400 m freestyle and ranked 36th with the result of 3.55.83. He thus failed to qualify for the final.
At the European Youth Olympic Festival of July 26 – August 2, Alexei Sankov won three golds and one silver medal. In the 200 m freestyle, he broke the record of Iurii Bashkatov set in 1988, scoring the time of 1.49.20.
Alexei Sankov has yet qualified for the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro that will take place next summer.
