In Moldova, the interest in studying the Romanian language among other language speakers has increased. “I have students also from Tiraspol, Tighina, Rybnitsa,” professor Alexei Axan, author of Romanian language teaching methods and textbook, stated in IPN’s public debate “Language as an integral value in European development of society”.
He was one of the two professors invited to teach Romanian to Gagauz doctors and professors. “I told them then that it wasn’t convenient for them to permanently take us so far. But they explained to me that they will deal with the inconveniences for the sake of obtaining the projected results,” confessed Alexei Axan.
He also noted the interest in developing the communication skills in Romanian among kindhearted educators. “We taught lessons to educators of a number of kindergartens. It was a very interesting experience full of satisfaction. The linguistic abilities of the child should be developed by game and special techniques are needed here,” stated the professor.
He is convinced that the state should react to the increased interest in studying the Romanian language and should support the working out of teaching methods for different categories and groups.
For now, such support comes mainly from the Western partners. “The attempts to establish a dialogue with the Government regrettably didn’t produce results,” said the author of multiple textbooks.
Consequently, many possibilities of efficiently teaching Romanian to other language speakers in Moldova are now not used, like the summer language schools. “In 2002, we launched a ten-year program within which there were designed textbooks, launched a teaching firm and organized a simmer language camp. To study there, one had to pass the school year end exam. Seventy-two persons enrolled and then told me that those days spent in Holercani helped them learn more than the whole previous year. But the authorities halted the project in two years.”
The public debate “Language as an integral value in European development of society” was held in the framework of the project “Overcoming stereotypes of European integration through communication” that is implemented with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
