The processes to investigate the bank fraud and to hold accountable those involved in the theft, whose names are already known, are slow or even stagnant, MP of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Alexandru Slusari, chairman of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the robbing of the banking system, said that one year passed since the change of emphases in the investigation of the fraud committed at Banca de Economii, Banca Socială and UniBank,  but the responsible authorities haven’t yet charged the persons mentioned in the Second Kroll Report. The MP developed the issue in a public debate titled “Investigation of bank fraud: actions, perceptions, reasonable timeframes” that was staged by IPN News Agency.

“I had a meeting with Prosecutor General Stoianoglo, where we discussed all the moments. I presented my viewpoint to him: if we want to find real traces, we must follow not only the line of Sor who, as I consider, was a tool in the hands of Plahotniuc and he should answer for this. We should hold accountable the representatives of the state bodies who allowed actions or inaction, first of all governor Dorin Drăguțan, the whole administration of the National Bank, the Financial Stability Committee of 2014, which took decisions over the state guarantees without introducing special administration at banks and allowed the 25 billion lei to be withdrawn from those banks. The names are swell-known: Iurie Leancă, Andrian Candu, Dorin Drăguțan,” stated Alexandru Slusari.

He wondered why the bodies responsible for the investigation of the bank fraud omitted the actions of the aforementioned persons.

“I hope Dorin Drăguțan will be prosecuted, but I don’t understand why the situations with Iurie Leanca and Valeriu Lazăr of 2013, when the state was dispossessed, are not investigated. Some bad things were committed there with the assistance of Yaralov. Why aren’t Andrian Candu and Iurie Leanca held accountable for what happened in 2014”?

The MP expressed his concern about the possibility that President Igor Dodon and Vladimir Plahotniuc will reach an agreement and those cases will be dropped.

Alexandru Slusari noted that the investigation until 2019 had been mimicked and things started to really move on only last year.

The debate “Investigation of bank fraud: actions, perceptions, reasonable timeframes” was the 143th installment of the series “Developing political culture through public debates” that is supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
