FC Rostov, where Moldovan midfielder Alexandru Gatcan plays, has qualified for the Champions League group stage. Russian league runners-up thrashed four-time CL winners Ajax Amsterdam 4-1 and will make their debut in Europe’s top club tournament, IPN reports.
With Gatcan as captain, Rostov was leading 4-0 thanks to goals from Azmoun, Erokhin, Noboa and Poloz. The Dutch outfit’s consolation goal was a late penalty scored by Klaasen.
Gatcan is the third Moldovan who will play in the Champions League groups, after Sergiu Dadu and Serghei Covalciuc. He was named the Best Moldovan Footballer in 2013 and 2015.
