Alexandr Pînzari has replaced Iulian Rusu as director of the National Anticorruption Center after Parliament today formally approved the latter’s resignation. Pînzari was one of Rusu’s two deputies.

The Bloc of Communists and Socialists criticized the new appointment, demanding that a public competition be held instead. In response, the PAS group cited legal provisions which say that a simple majority in Parliament and the Legal Commission’s endorsement is all that is needed to appoint a NAC director.

Eventually, 62 PAS lawmakers voted Pînzari in.

Lieutenant-Colonel Alexandr Pînzari has been serving in the NAC since 2016. He has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in law. Previously, he worked at the Ministry of the Interior.
