The Republic of Moldova and Portugal will promote and support cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises and will explore possible investments in industry. Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, signed a cooperation agreement in the economic sector with his Portuguese counterpart João Gomes Cravinho, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said that the two officials discussed the Republic of Moldova’s integration into the European Union and the progress made in implementing the nine recommendations put forward by the European Commission. “In this connection, I stated that we bank on Portugal’s assistance in opening the accession negotiations with the EU by the end of this year. We also spoke about the fourth edition of the Moldova Support Platform that will be held in Chisinau in October and will bring all our country’s friends at the same table. We will focus on such issues as economic resilience, energy security, and attraction of investments,” said Nicu Popescu.

An agreement of cooperation on the fields of language, education, higher education, science and technology, culture, sport, youth, and the media was also signed in Lisbon, as was a Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the similar institution of Portugal, which is designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise in such areas as diplomacy, European affairs, and international relations.
