After the presidential runoff vote, the Government will submit a bill to strengthen the independence of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) to Parliament. Prime Minister Ion Chicu expressed his confidence that the bill will be supported so that the IMF Board approves a new program for the Republic of Moldova this year. “This is needed for ensuring the budgetary-fiscal sustainability of the Republic of Moldova,” the official stated after the meeting of senior state officials, being quoted by IPN.

Last week, Premier Chicu had discussions with officials of the IMF and they agreed the timetable of the new program. The 2021 draft budgetary-fiscal policy document is close to being finished. This will be modified so that it meets the expectations of businessmen.

The official also said that the Government made all the payments for October. He referred to the 600 million lei paid to the NBM, the over 600 million lei allocated for paying one-off support to pensioners and recipients of social welfare and the funds needed to pay healthcare workers’ salaries that were raised by 30%.
