The political class in the Republic of Moldova should combine forces under a common message concerning the investigation of the bank fraud. In particular, the MPs should adopt a common statement to this effect, said Socialist MP Adrian Lebedinschi, a member of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the bank fraud.

“The politicians should first of all promote the same message concerning the stolen US$1 billion. There is no contradiction here, but there are several MPs involved in the process and they could pursue some other goals. All the other MPs of good faith should come up with a message in support of all the decision makers and employees of the legal system who manage this case,” Adrian Lebedinschi stated in a public debate titled “Investigation of bank fraud: actions, perceptions, reasonable timeframes” that was held by IPN News Agency.

The MP believes Moldova’s Parliament should follow with increased attention the bodies that investigate this case and should hold regular hearings.

“There could be also adopted a common statement in Parliament. We should have our eye on the prosecutors so as not to allow deviations. We should have hearings on the developments in this case in Parliament at least once in two-three months. Possibly not with names of persons, but we should know what the Prosecutor’s Office and the Superior Council of Magistracy do in this case,” he stated.

Adrian Lebedinschi noted the SCM should undertake a special role in the management of this case through judicial inspection and through other legal instruments accessible to it.

The debate “Investigation of bank fraud: actions, perceptions, reasonable timeframes” was the 143th installment of the series “Developing political culture through public debates” that is supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
