Actress Nelly Camenev dies while performing

The actress Nelly Camenev has passed away Sunday evening on the stage of the “Chekhov” Russian Theatre. The actress, 75, was performing her last role in the play “Woe from Wit” by Griboedov, and passed away at 8:10 pm, surrounded by her colleague actors, on the stage where she has performed for over half a century.
Eufalia Negreata, a doctor at the Emergency Hospital, and a spectator at that moment, saw Nelly Kamenev collapsing and tried to resuscitate her. The efforts to bring the actress to life of the ambulance squad that arrived some minutes later turned out to be to no avail.
The Russian-speaking theatre actress Nelly Camenev was born on October 19, 1931, in the town of Uman in Ukraine. In 1953 she graduated from the Theatre Art Institute (Kiev) and debuted at the “Chekhov” Russian Theatre in Chisinau, performing a 160-role career. Nelly Camenev was in early sixties the first presenter of the national television channel. In 1965 she was conferred the Emeritus Artist of MSSR title, and in 1982 – People’s Artist of MSSR. She was also awarded “The Insigne of Honour” Order and the “Civic Merit” Medal.
The renowned actress Nelly Camanev also performed in “The Mirage of Love” movie, wining everybody’s admiration.
Exactly three years ago, her husband, who was also the administrator of the same theatre, passed away while at work. On Sunday evening, after the play, the actress was expected to have guests at a dinner to remember her husband.
