The comedy “Dinner of fools” by Francis Veber, under the direction of Ion Caramitru, will open today, September 23, the Week of the Bucharest National Theater “I. L. Caragiale” in Chisinau, which is staged for the first time. The performance starts at 7pm. The director of the Bucharest National Theater “I. L. Caragiale” Ion Caramitru told a news conference that these are three significant plays from the national and universal playwriting that will be performed by great actors.

The comedy “Dinner of fools” will be presented on September 24. A Parisian publisher attends a weekly “idiots’ dinner”, where guests, who are modish, prominent Parisian businessmen, must bring along an “idiot” who the other guests can ridicule. At the end of the dinner, the evening's “champion idiot” is selected. The play involves actors Horatiu Malaele, Ion Caramitru, Medeea Marinescu, Alexandru Bindea, Costina Ciuciulica and others.

On September 25 and 26, the public is invited to the comedy “Small Inferno” by Mircea Stefanescu, which is about conjugal hell. On September 27 and 28, there will be performed “The Suicide” by Nikolai Erdman, which is a painful comedy about the crisis of a man lost in the waves of a society in crisis, directed by Felix Alexa.

At the start of the season, the troupe of the Chisinau National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” put on four plays in Bucharest. The Theater’s director Petru Hadarca said that this season in Bucharest and Chisinau is a broad cultural exchange between two Romanian language national theaters.

The president of the Romanian Culture Institute of Bucharest Lilian Zamfiroiu said there were presented and will be yet presented plays of the highest quality. “The project creates a common Romanian area on both sides of the Prut and contributes to its strengthening,” he stated.
