ACC postponed announcement of tender for using TV and radio frequencies

The Audiovisual Coordinating Council postponed for 45 days the announcement of the tender for the utilisation of radio frequencies and TV channels. In this period, a strategy is to be worked out in this sense. The respective request has been made at the Council’s session on Tuesday, January 30, by its member Vlad Turcanu, who proposed that the announcement of the tender be postponed until a strategy on granting frequencies is drafted, as outlined in the Audiovisual Code. According to the quoted source, a commission has been created within the Council, which works on framing the strategy. As for the radio stations that have their licences expired, they will be allowed to operate until the new tender will be held. Turcanu mentioned that the radio stations which will obtain licences will be able to broadcast on these frequencies for a 7 year period after which they will have the opportunity to benefit from 2 prolongations, which means that they receive licences for 21 years. “ACC tries to create an audiovisual, which will be based on certain principles. But firstly, these principles are to be established”, he concluded. Turcanu was supported by other members of the ACC. On the other hand Valeriu Frumusachi said that the announcement of the tender can take place in parallel with the process of working out the strategy. With the votes of 7 members of 9, the Council decided to postpone the announcement of the tender for 45 days. During the Tuesday’s session, the activity report of ACC for 2006 had to be examined. ACC chairman Corneliu Mihalache solicited the postponement of this issue for the next sitting, in order to have it prepared. He also mentioned that the report also refers to the activity period of the previous Council, fact which requires additional specifications. The respective report will be analysed in the ACC session on February 1.
