Coronavirus: chronicle of worsening of situation

The authorities declared a red alert at national level in connection with the epidemiological situated related to COVID-19, given the confirmed danger of a public health emergency. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Moldova rose to eight. “The healthcare system is ready to cope. We have strategic institutions, including in reserve, which will be engaged if the number of infected persons rises at “Toma Ciorbă” Hospital,” stated the minister of health.

Two men who were taken to the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă” last night said that they recently returned from Italy. They abused the medical personnel, demanding that they should be tested for COVID-19. After being taken samples, they said that they joked. The case was reported to the police.

The Chisinau – Iasi train route is suspended until April 2. The
flights for and from Spain and Italy were also suspended. The Central Market of Chisinau was closed on a temporary basis. Disinfection works started on playgrounds and in other public places in the capital city.

Trade unions, in interests of working people


The National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova said it is now inadmissible, following the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission’s decision to suspend the educational process, for the salary earners to go on unpaid leave. The trade unions suggest that one of the parents with children who need to be supervised should be mandatorily offered paid nonworking days or, given the epidemiological situation, leave for preventing infection by paying a quarantine allowance from the state social insurance budget to them.

It’s give and take

A number of properties owned by the Republic of Moldova on the territory of Ukraine were passed on non-transparently to joint Moldovan-Ukrainian enterprises, said PPPDA MP Alexandru Slusari, Deputy Speaker of Parliament. “Most of the 16 facilities brought no revenues into the state budget. We will do our best for those to blame to be held accountable,” stated Alexandru Slusari, noting that the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” will monitor the developments.
