The head of the DSE International and Mass Media Department, Alexandru Oprea, reported that the protection dyke was damaged for a length of 2 meters. As a result, 37 households, mainly gardens and cellars, were partly flooded. Two electric transformers were also damaged, leading to an electric power turn off in the villages Cucoara and Larga Noua. The rain and the wind have left without electric power the villages Semeni, Zagarancea, Cetireni, Untesti, Grozasca, Floritoaia Veche of the Ungheni district. On Wednesday morning the electric power supply was re-established. According to Oprea, in order to improve the situation of Cucoara 4 technical units and 12 employees of the Exceptional Situations Department of the Cahul district were involved. The wells were cleaned and the water was evacuated out of the cellars and basements, and the damaged part of the dam was repaired in the evening. On Wednesday, 9 August, is planned the consolidation of the entire protection dyke. The material damage resulting from the abundant rains is yet to be estimated.
