A new political party, called “Apel”, professing a pro-European orientation and placing itself on the center-left side of the political spectrum, has been launched in Moldova.

Ghenadie Buzilă, head of the founding group, told a press conference that the party’s platform is “the citizen is the priority in the relationship with the state and not the other way around”. Apel Party won’t be guided by any classical political doctrine, describing itself instead as a “people’s party”.

“The defense of citizens is the law,” stated Ghenadie Buzilă.

Buzilă also noted that the Public Services Agency approved the name and the symbol of the party. The founding group, consisting of 12 members, was formed in September 2018. The congress of the party will be on August 11 in order to choose the governing structures.

Ghenadie Buzilă also said that so far, several hundred signatures have been gathered out of the 4,000 needed to form a political party. “It is not a problem for us to move through 20-30 districts to gather signatures. If you have noticed, the initiative group was formed last September, but we haven’t idled in the meantime. The reason we are going public today is to make ourselves known to a greater number of people,” said Ghenadie Buzila.

The party aims to be in for the local elections in October.

Tatiana Dabija, party’s secretary said that she joined because as a lawyer she noticed that the rights of people are often harmed. “The party wants to bring together qualified, constitutional lawyers. We invite everyone to become a member of this party, so there can be a direct change,” declared Tatiana Dabija.

The symbol of the party is a bell. “When the bell rings, people are gathered to solve the problems that arise in society. It is like an alarm - it sounds, it calls the world to show up,” the party secretary explained.
