A fight is going on within the ruling coalition for the holder of the prosecutor general office, after the same coalition has instituted political control over this position. The statement has been made by Șor's Party MP, Denis Ulanov, during a press briefing, IPN reports.
According to the MP, the fact that the Ministry of Justice will pre-select candidates for the position of Prosecutor General is undemocratic. Denis Ulanov believes that the elected prosecutor will be at the beck and call of the ruling coalition and execute its political orders.
The parliamentarian also said that the true reform of the justice system should increase people's confidence in the prosecutor's offices. Therefore, the Șor Party believes that the Prosecutor General should be chosen by the people.
Earlier, the party has proposed a draft law that provides for the direct election of the Prosecutor General. Denis Ulanov says, within the Legal Committee for appointments and immunities, Socialist MPs stated that this draft was a populist one, although four years ago they demanded the same thing.
The MP of the Șor Party has expressed his hope that the draft will be debated and voted on in Parliament.
