A Christmas Miracle

A young man from Chisinau escaped by a hair's-breadth on Christmas form a terrible work-related accident and managed to stay alive. The fortunate fell in a hole on a building site over rebar, several rods penetrating his chest and abdomen. Despite these injuries, the young man lives and the doctors say that his condition is satisfying.
Silvia Babara, the Coordinating doctor of the Emergency Service from Chisinau told Info-Prim Neo that Viorel Chilaru, aged 24, was on the building site of the former cinema theatre “Columna” when the accident happened. Because of the darkness, the young man fell in a several metres deep hole. A metal rod pierced his chest, 3 mm from the aorta, and another one penetrated the abdomen without touching any vital organs.
The Exceptional Situations Department disengaged the victim from the rods. They cut 15 rods until reaching the victim. He was transported to the hospital were he was hospitalised in the intense care section. After a surgery, the young man was transferred to another section, because the doctors said that the injuries were not putting his life at risk.
The Emergency Service from Chisinau registered 635 calls on Monday, including 47 traumatisms, 8 cases of brain ictus and one heart attack.
