A 93-year-old woman was found partially charred in her home in Ilyichovca village of Florești district on Monday morning. The fire allegedly broke out in the house due to malfunctions in the chimney of the stove, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said the victim was found by neighbors. They called the 112 service at around 08:00 a.m. Two fire crews went to the scene. They determined that the fire damaged goods in the house and partially the ceiling. The fire was completely extinguished in about an hour.
After the first investigations, specialists established that the fire started because the chimney of the stove was damaged. Other circumstances are to be found out by the relevant bodies.
Also this morning, a fire broke out in a house in Climăuți village of Dondușeni district. The flames engulfed objects in the house. The 60-year-old owner of the house died in the fire. According to specialists, the fire broke out due to reckless smoking.
In this connection, the rescuers urge the population to strictly comply with the fire safety rules and personal safety rules. Citizens are advised to periodically ventilate the rooms where fires burn and to ensure that the smoke exhaust channels are not blocked. Particular attention should be paid to the elderly, and they should be helped to light and monitor the fire in the stove.
The 1,571 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year claimed 94 lives. Three of the victims were minors.
