9/11 events remembered in Chisinau

Officials as well as ordinary citizens gathered today outside the United States Embassy in Chisinau to lay flowers in remembrance of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It is a homage we pay to those who are not in our midst anymore, and also to those who still carry the grief of losing the loved ones in their souls. It is important not to forget what happened, so that we don’t admit the recurrence of those tragic events”, stated Vlad Filat, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM). Vlad Filat and U.S. Ambassador Asif Chaudhry held an open-door meeting, which, according to the PLDM leader, focused on the relationship between Moldova and the US, and in particularly the constant support offered by the United States to Moldova. George Mocanu, the leader of the PLDM’s youth wing, said that, despite being a small country, Moldova always stays connected to what happens around. “Happily, we haven’t lived events of that kind, because the interests in this region are different; however, living in a zone where interests clash, we must show solidarity with the American people and learn some lessons”, said Mocanu. “The tragedy of every person arouses empathy in others”, said Valeriu Saharneanu, the president of the Journalists Union, after laying flowers. “The American people suffered very much that day. What happened there was a signal that the world was in danger. We are a people that was stricken by the aggressiveness of the XX century and we know what suffering is; that is why we are here, to share the suffering with the American people and tell them that we empathize”, Saharneanu added. Vladimir Crasicov, a second-degree invalid attending the event, arranged the flowers he brought in the shape of a cross and lit a candle. “When the tragedy happened, I went to donate blood to those who survived the terrorist attempt. I come here every year to lay flowers and remember those persons”, the man said. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11 eight years ago. Most of them died in Manhattan, in the heart of New York, under the debris of what was once known as the World Trade Center.
