A 9-year-old girl died in a fire in the village of Năvârneț, Fălești district, after the child's father torched the room where she was located. According to the girl's grandparents, the man has resorted to such a gesture due to being left by the girl's mother.

According to the Fălești Police Inspectorate press officer, Eugenia Molceanov, the fire was noticed by the man's parents-in-law, who felt the smell of gasoline from the neighboring room. The father-in-law saw how his 47-year-old son-in-law, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, set the room on fire with a lighter and locked himself inside.

The household owner, along with his wife and 30-year-old son, left the building. Later on, out came the son-in-law, who had self inflicted cuts in in the region of the arms and neck. The body of the 9-year-old girl was found in the burnt room.

Due to his injuries, the man was admitted to Fălești District Hospital in an unconscious state.

According to the child's grandparents, their son-in-law has lived with them for about 11 years. Currently, their daughter is temporarily laboring in Italy. Two days ago, their daughter communicated with the man, whom she told that she had found another life partner and she would not return home.

A criminal case has commenced.
