Only 19 of the 149 schools in Chisinau fully meet sanitary and hygienic requirements, according to an assessment report posted on the Chisinau Public Health Center’s (CSP) webpage. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of Chisinau’s Education Division Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has admitted that this situation was true for late August, at the time of the inspection, but things have improved considerably since then.
The evaluation was made during August 24-30. The top infringements were those relating to repairs and construction-work. 3 institutions have started building new rooms, uncoordinated by the Center for Public Healthcare. 24 of the institutions haven’t patched their roofs, and other 24 haven’t completed repairs in their cafeterias, classrooms and water closets. Further, several institutions don’t have functioning appliances and fridges in their cafeterias. 3 institutions are not even connected to plumbing and sewage networks. 11 pre-university institutions don’t have properly equipped bathrooms.
Commenting on the results of this evaluation, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has mentioned that there are 135 pre-unoversity institutions in Chisinau and not 149, as claimed by CSP. “At the time of the evaluation, in late August, there may have been some deficiencies in some area or another. But, if there were great problems, I doubt that the CSP would have allowed the school year to start there”, said Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb. She admits that some repairs were indeed delayed, mostly because the budget was approved late. Next week the Division will present its own report on how the educational institutions in Chisinau prepared for the ongoing school year.
