Over 80 Romanian citizens might be fined MDL 600 up to 1,000 for the violation of Moldova’s employment rules. At the same time, the employer who hired them will pay fines between MDL 4,000 and 6,000 for each hired Romanian citizen. The statement has been made by the head of the Migration and Asylum Bureau (BMA) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Veaceslav Banzari, during a press conference, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Banzari, those 83 Romanians have worked since December 2006 at “Ciment” JSC in Rezina. The company was privatised in 1999 by the French “Lafarge” concern. The Romanian citizens were discovered on March 6, after inspections operated by BMA. Policemen found out that employers hired Romanian citizens as builders, engineers, welders and others, without any authorisation and work permit, paying them 25 euro per day and a 300 lei bonus for food. According to Banzari, they were receiving EUR 750 monthly. At the moment, the State Tax Inspectorate is verifying the legality of tax payment. Banzari asserts that each foreign citizen who wishes to be employed in Moldova has to hold residence permit and work permit, as well as to have the status of immigrant. According to statistics provided by police, 295 cases of illicit hiring of foreign citizens have been registered in 2006, and 179 – in 2007. The cited sources assert that Moldova is attractive for the citizens of 84 states of the world, including Turks and Syrians.
