The police seized about 700 kilograms of fish without documents of origin. It was later established that the fish was stolen from a lake that belongs to a resident of Racovati village of Soroca district, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, the fish was transported by a vehicle. It was noticed by a police car when it turned from a field to a country lane near Alexandru cel Bun village of Soroca distric. It looked overloaded.
When checking the vehicle, the police found 12 sacks with about 700 kg of fish in the trunk. The 45-year-old driver from Ciorascu commune of Chisinau municipality could not show documents of origin for the merchandise and admitted that the fish was to be sold at markets in Chisinau.
The man faces a fine of 6,000 to 20,000 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or up to four years in jail for theft.
