61% of Moldovans know nothing about Vilnius Summit, survey

61% of the respondents of a survey commissioned by IPN News Agency to the Marketing and Poling Institute IMAS-INC Chisinau said they heard nothing about the Eastern Partnership Summit of Vilnius. 31% heard about the meeting, while 8% didn’t know how to answer. 33% of those who heard about the summit and its importance believe that Moldova will succeed in initialing or agreeing on the Association Agreement with the EU, while 43% said that there will be no positive results for Moldova.

According to the poll, 36% of the respondents think that the authorities made certain progress on the path to European integration in 2010-2013. 30% consider that things were stagnant, while 10% that the situation worsened. The others didn’t know how to answer. Most of the respondents believe that the misunderstandings inside the former ruling alliance, corruption and the incompetent politicians are to blame for the insignificant progress made on the road to European integration.

Asked what foreign policy course Moldova should take, 36% of those polled answered that towards Europe, 36% said that towards Russia, 3% are for moving towards Romania, 12% chose all the previous variants, while the rest didn’t know how to answer. Asked which of the country’s partners want Moldova to be successful, 64% named Russia, 54% - the EU, while 51% - Ukraine. The respondents could choose a number of variants. 36% of them believe that NATO wants evil to Moldova, while 31% said this about Romania.

If a referendum on Moldova joining the EU, NATO or the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union was held next Sunday, 51% would vote for joining the EU, while 21% would vote against. Also, 51% are for joining the Customs Union, while 22% are against. As to NATO, 14% are for joining it, while 46% are against.

The IMAS survey commissioned by IPN was carried out between May 10 and May 26 and covered a sample of 1,143 persons. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
