A tumor weighing almost 5 kg localized in the pleural cavity of a 61-year-old woman was successfully removed by thoracic surgeons of the National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga”. As the tumor was large, access to it was almost impossible, IPN reports.
The patient said she often and swiftly got tired, but she got used to that state and didn’t go to see a doctor as she expected she would feel better. But tiredness persisted and pain was sharper and she sought help from doctors. She was referred to the National Clinical Hospital.
The operation lasted for approximately three hours and everything went smooth, without great losses of blood and complications. “The next day the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit. In our practice, we often meet with mediastinal tumors but not as large as the current one that was almost 35-40 cm wide and had a diameter of 25 cm,” stated Alexandru Toma.
In several days of the surgery, the patient said she felt fine and didn’t have chest pain. Doctors are waiting for the results of the histological examination to decide the suitable treatment.
