A group of 57 Romanian language teachers from ATU Gagauzia, Taraclia district and Balti municipality leave for Romania to attend an intensive vocational training course within an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Research and the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said the initiative to strengthen the professional skills of teaching the Romanian language in areas that are compactly populated by national ethnic minorities begins today. The project was possible thanks to the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Research of Moldova, the Ministry of Education of Romania and Romania’s Embassy in Moldova.
According to the minister, the Framework Plan for primary, secondary and high school education for the 2024-2025 school year will also contribute to the intensification of the study of the Romanian language as it provides for the inclusion of additional hours to study the Romanian language in schools attended by children speaking other languages than Romanian, from the first grade. The concept of multilingual education, which was approved and will be implemented shortly and which provides for the gradual transition to the study of basic subjects in Romanian, will also make a contribution.
The program, says Dan Perciun, has aroused increased interest especially among ethnic Gagauz and Bulgarians. Some institutions have even opened classes with teaching in Romanian. An example in this regard is “Mihail Ciachir” Theoretical High School in Ceadîr Lunga, which, in addition to four already existing primary classes in Romanian, will open the first fifth grade in Romanian on September 1.
Cristian Leon-Țurcanu, Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, noted that two more groups will leave for Romania after this first group. Work is underway to start a new project that is generously supported by the Ministry of Education of Romania, which will be intended not only for Romanian language and literature teachers, but also for teachers who teach other subjects in Romanian. The completion of works at the Romanian language high school in Comrat, where the Romanian Government invested over €800,000, is good news.
Sofia Cuneva, a teacher of Romanian language and literature at the Theoretical High School in Tvardița, Taraclia district, believes that the courses in Romania will enable her to improve her knowledge and then share her experiences. “Through the agency of these courses, we will have the opportunity to meet counterparts from all over the country, to discover new teaching methods and techniques and to be inspired by the rich Romanian cultural heritage,” noted the teacher.
In mid-July, another 50 teachers will be able to improve their language skills in Romania. In total, there are 900 Romanian language teachers who teach in 255 schools for nonnative speakers.
