Fifty students from ten higher education establishments of Moldova came into possession of the Merit Scholarship of 12,000 lei. The students were awarded within the 19th contest “Merit Scholarships” that is traditionally staged by the Educational Advising Center under the aegis of the Rectors Council of Moldova and with the financial support of BC Moldova Agroindbank and Orange Moldova, IPN reports.

The contest involved 257 persons studying for a master’s degree. Thirty-five last-year students and 15 persons studying for a master’s degree were designated as winners.

Attending the award ceremony, Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici said she is honored to be near the best 50 students and called on them not to leave the country. “The contest “Merit Scholarships” is the most durable social project in Moldova and I congratulate you on this. We should involve more companies in such an initiative. Moldova needs talented young people and I urge you to be active so as to enter the Cabinet and Parliament in the nearest future,” she stated.

Deputy Minister of Education Igor Grosu said the Ministry of Education makes effort to promote young people with accomplishments and thanked the organizers for awarding the students with polyvalent abilities and civic activism. “We, as potential employers, are waiting for you at the Ministry of Education as we need staff with fresh blood,” he stated.

Director of the Educational Advising Center Angela Muset said this year’s contest didn’t disappoint the organizers, while the quality of the submitted files and the knowledge of the students were of a very high quality. “The Moldovan students show that a high education level can be acquired in Moldova too, while the program “Merit Scholarships” appreciates them for the effort made in the learning process and for the wish to enrich their knowledge and develop their aptitudes by becoming involved in different extracurricular activities,” she stated.

During the 19 editions of the program, more than 4,500 students took part in the contest, with 1,230 of them receiving Merit Scholarships.
