Original news:
Ecaterina Maniuc, the doctor who allegedly administered anesthesia to the businesswoman who died in a beauty salon, was brought before magistrates today. The doctor is accused of illegal medical practice and prosecutors are demanding pre-trial detention, IPN reports.
The investigation is ongoing and the court's decision on the pre-trial remand is expected tomorrow.
On the other hand, lawyer Alexandru Zmeu says that anesthesia was not performed nor was it necessary for the aesthetic procedure, and his client cannot be accused of administering general anesthesia. Zmeu also said that Maniuc did not work as an anesthesiologist at the salon, but he was a specialist doctor, with the proper papers to carry out the activity.
The case prosecutor has another clarification, stating that Ecaterina Maniuc was officially employed at the beauty salon where the tragedy occurred, but without a license for the interventions performed. The investigation indicated that both the beauty salon and the doctor did not have the necessary authorizations for such procedures. The woman faces a prison sentence of between one and five years, the prosecutor announced.
Ecaterina Maniuc was detained on Friday, after which she was placed in pre-trial isolation for 72 hours. The doctor has a suspect status in the case and is being investigated for illegal practice of medicine, an offense that led to the victim's death due to negligence.
